System Architecture

Functional Architecture

ITS-AML consists of two main parts, the Back Office and the Front Office.

  • ITS-AML Back Office
The Back Office handles the import and profiling of account, client and transaction data from the bank’s transaction processing system, as well as the import of match lists and the matching process. The results of the import and matching processes are stored in a set of databases. The ITS-AML Back Office comes with three applications that an administrator can use to manage and monitor the processes:
    • Back Office Administration: for Back Office management and verification of imports
    • Service Manager: to configure and to start and stop the services used for the import and list matching processes
    • Environment Setup: to set up the environments (for instance a test and a production environment) to be managed
  • ITS-AML Front Office
The Front Office consists of the web application that contains all the functionality for alert handling, investigation, case management and reporting that end users need, as well as system administration functions. The ITS-AML Front Office works with the data that was prepared by the ITS-AML Back Office.

Technical Architecture

ITS-AML is window-based and runs on Windows 2000 Server but the system does not depend on system components of specific Windows versions and does not access the Windows kernel. ITS-AML uses SQL Server 2000 as internal database however ITS-AML has been prepared to support other databases such as Oracle with a minimum of effort.

No client installation of ITS-AML software is required. The Front Office is installed on a web server. The software generates W3C standard web pages, so that the only client software required for end users to access the application is a standard browser. This reduces installation (low-cost ownership) and maintenance efforts (single-point administration) and enables remote access over the Internet.

ITS-AML runs on the Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) and makes use of the standard security features that are available in IIS. The .NET Framework was used to develop the application. As a result, ITS-AML Front Office is future-proof, easy to integrate with existing environments and independent of specific versions of Windows and system components. ITS-AML Front Office has been developed in C# and ASP.NET.

XML is used for communication between the Front Office and external Applications.
